Western Cape MEC of Environmental Affairs and Development Planning Anton Bredell today said the provincial government is part of a municipal benchmarking exercise.

Bredell said the benchmark will enable municipalities to put strategic plans in place to ensure financial viability and stability over the short-, medium- and long –term.

Bredell said they have come up with the model to benchmark municipalities to put certain standards to them and certain averages.

He adds that it is very difficult when municipalities are compared to each other that is why they have come up with this model and this model states that for e.g. an average on salaries according to a total budget .

“Municipal mangers and mayors will get a code the code of their municipalities because we don’t want municipalities to be compared to one another but to rather work towards a set goal or work towards averages’’ said Bredell
