On Thursday Western Cape MEC of Finance, Economic Development and Tourism Alan Winde delivered the provincial budget for 2013-2014.

On of the biggest challenges for the provincial government remains housing.

The total allocation to the department of Human Settlements amounts to R2.149 billion for the creation of sustainable human settlements.

Winde said the Human Settlements they have to make sure they deliver on what they budget for, and human settlement get their money sent directly to the City of Cape Town.

“Overall the money is still growing, but we have to make sure there is a balance between infrastructure investment in general that creates jobs and housing; we know its a backlog we have to make sure we are investing in housing but first we have to make sure the infrastructure is in place to put a house in place” Winde added.
