Netcare 911 paramedics and other services responded to an accident on the N1 near Malibongwe Drive in Strydom Park, Randburg this morning.

Upon their arrival on scene they found that a motor vehicle had rear-ended a heavy goods vehicle.

Netacre 911 Spokesperson Santie Steinmann said a 26 year-old female driver of the vehicle was entrapped in the vehicle and the Jaws-of-Life had to be used to extricate her out of the vehicle.

Steinmann said Netcare1 helicopter was activated to airlift the critically injured woman to a Netcare facility for the urgent medical care that she required, once she was freed from the vehicle.

Exact detail to the cause of the accident and preceding events are unknown and the subjects are police investigating.
