Western Cape MEC of Transport and Public Works Robin Carlisle will on Sunday be launching the third phase of the Average Speed Over Distance project.

Ministerial Spokesperson Siphesihle Dube explained that the ASOD calculates the average speed of a vehicle from the time it passes the first camera until it passes the second camera.

The project has also resulted in the death rate decreasing.

Dube said that this is the third implementation following the implementation on the R61.

Dube added that since their first implementation there’s been a vast reduction in the number of arrests for speeding on those routes as well as a reduction in the number of crashes.
