SAHRC says Social Development has not fulfilled its obligations

The South African Human Rights Commission on Wednesday found that the department of Social Development has not fulfilled its obligations regarding the Child Protection Register.


HRC spokesperson Isaac Mangena said the investigation included the department of Social Development, which is the primary implementer of the Children’s Act, the Department of Women Children and People with Disabilities and the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development.

Mangena said that department of Social Development should provide the commission with reports and with an updated CPR and an audit report detailing challenges and the to insure that the CPR obligations are properly met.

He added that they would like for the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development to develop a comprehensive programme for training and sustained awareness of all relevant cost officials regarding their duties under the act.
