Over 100 countries are today paying tribute to their teachers and the immense contribution towards education, as today marks World Teacher’s Day.

Unesco inaugurated World Teacher’s Day in order to pay tribute to the contributions and achievements of teachers.

Meanwhile President Jacob Zuma as part of Teacher’s Day will be opening and handing over a school in the Eastern Cape.

Ministerial Spokesperson Bronagh Casey said MEC Grant would like to acknowledge the commitment of teachers to their profession and their dedication in providing learners with quality education.

“Many of the teachers are not recognised often enough for their outstanding effort in fact the reason there are some teachers who too often have been subjected to unfair and unjustified, generalised criticism,” Casey added.

She further added that they would like to thank teachers personally for their tireless effort and commitment to learners and education as a whole.
