On Wednesday, President Jacob Zuma signed the notorious Maintenance Amendment Act into law.

In a recent statement, The Congress of South African Trade Unions congratulated the president, parliament and the ANC for passing what it calls a progressive Act.

COSATU Parliamentary Office Matthew Parks said they believe it’s going to curb through the loophole that parents have used to dodge paying maintenance for their children and their ex partners.

“It will also use modern technology such as cellular phones and track maintenance dodges this will also help to make sure they don’t hide money when they are meant to pay maintenance.” Parks added.
