Western Cape MEC of Social Development, Albert Fritz, welcomes the arrest by the South African Police Services of a Tubelitsha mother near Delft on charges of child neglect and abandonment.

Fritz says the department of Social Development has a zero tolerance policy to the abuse of children.

He says that the children aged 1, 3 and 9 are placed with a safety parent.

Fritz says Delft sends out a message to all parents that they must take the first keeping and the wellbeing of their children seriously.

He says that, “We however have learnt that the mother has subsequently been released. We will follow up with that with the police and find out why the mother was released from custody."

We will continue as Social Development to support the police in building up cases against any parent who neglects their children, he added.
