The City of Cape Town’s traffic officer was arrested yesterday after accepting a R5000 bribe from a drunken driver.
The official, a 42 year-old male, was arrested during a sting operation by members of the police and the Organised Crime Unit.
Police spokesperson Superintendent Andre Traut, says the officer was caught when he took a bribe from a drunken motorist.
“The officer took a bribe from the motorist we caught and he took the money from the man and released the man from his arrest,” said Traut.
Traut says the man will appear tomorrow in the court in Bishop Lavis Magistrate’s Court on charges of corruption and defeating the ends of justice.
