The march to the Mayor’s office is underway. Frustrated residents from 15 informal settlements around the city are marching to the Cape Town Mayor Dan Plato’s office, where each community will submit their grievances and demands.

“ We are going to the Mayor today because we have demands. We are from Macassar and want land.

“ We want houses, but they refuse to listen to our demands. The Mayor does not want to give us the land,” said Andiswa Kolanisi, a Macassar Village evictee.

Adequate housing and proper water and sanitation facilities are also on the list of demands from the various informal settlements.
