Scientists have been called to investigate the causes of lighting in Kwazulu Natal and the Eastern Cape rural areas.
The summer rainfall season has seen a number of people killed by lightning.
According to experts, the common theory is that houses are not properly earthed as in urban areas.
Meanwhile, KwaZulu-Natal MEC for co-operative governance and traditional affairs Nomsa Dube says, “This is a new phenomenon and that’s why department of science and technology have called on scientists to investigate the matter.”
“It is not the first time that we’ve seen this happening,” she said.
