Yesterday a bus and taxi operator strike in Port Elizabeth left thousands of learners stranded.
Transport department spokesperson Ncedo Kumbaca said over 3000 learners could not attend school yesterday because the drivers decided to stop their services due to irregular payments.
Between Humansdorp and St Francis Bay just over 31 schools were affected by the strike yesterday.
Kumbaca said the transport department has a contract with the Bus and Taxi Business Chamber to transport children everyday.
He added that today a meeting will take place between drivers and chamber officials to end the dispute.
