Western Cape transport MEC Robin Carlisle still not satisfied with the fare hike

The Western Cape transport MEC Robin Carlisle and Cosatu continue to disagree on increases to commuter fares on Cape Metrorail trains.

Cosatu still maintain that they negotiated a good deal with the Cape Chamber of Commerce for only a 13-percent ticket price increase as opposed to the originally announced 27-percent hike.

Carlisle says that this is still too much and he plans to travel by train from Kraaifontein to Cape Town today.

Carlisle added that the aim for this trip is to speak to the commuters about how increases are affecting them.

Cosatu’s Mike Louw says this is too little too late.

Louw added that the agreement has been reached and there is no turning back.
