Cosatu has denied that it wants to restrict the number of international students at South African universities.
It says what was actually said at a meeting at the end of last month was that the high levels of international students in tertiary institutions should not prevent access by local students.
Cosatu says this is clearly not a call for a reduction in the number of overseas students.
They say they want more opportunities to be created for South African students to attend universities.
