The Western Cape Education Department has started to encourage parents to register their children early for the 2013 school year.
MEC for education in the Western Cape Donald Grant will be visiting a spaza shop in Asanda Village today.
He will be highlighting the importance of enrolling one’s child early for schooling next year.
The MEC’s spokesperson Bronagh Casey said they are targeting parents in various communities, who have children that are starting primary or high school next year, or who are changing schools.
Casey said the department is planning ahead for next year and they have to make sure that they have everything in place for the start of the school year.
She said every year a certain amount of parents are disappointed because they cannot find place for their children.
The department’s district officials will do anything possible to assist parents.
Casey said this cannot guarantee that the children will be placed in the school of their choice if the schools are full.
The department urged that the best time to enroll is straight away.
