The Transport Department in Western Cape wants to carry out blood tests on motorists suspected of drunk driving at roadblocks.
The department has proposed setting up satellite police stations that will provide immediate evidence to prosecute the motorist.
However, Provincial police commissioner Arno Lamoer says he is not sure if the plan to curb drunk driving will be possible.
He says they need to check how the satellite stations will be connected to the Police’s main online system. Lamoer is expected to decide on the issue within the next two weeks.
