Farm worker wage negotiations are set to
continue this week, but there is little hope an agreement can be reached soon,
as farmers’ representatives say there is too much to be done.
Agri
SA executive director Hans Van der Merwe said it is not possible to reach an
agreement by the end of the week, as there is too much work that still needs to
be done.
Farm workers are demanding to be paid a minimum of a R150 a day. Most of them earn between R69 and R75 a day.
Van der Merwe said that a progress meeting
between Agri SA, COSATU and the Labour Department was scheduled for Thursday.
