City of Cape Town educates children on road safety

Today Western Cape Mayoc Committee Member for Transport, Roads and Stormwater Brett Herron visited a school in Belhar as part of the City of Cape Town’s Transport Month. 

Herron said the focus for this month is pedestrian safety. 

According to the Western Cape Government Health Department’s Forensic Pathology Unit in 2012 a total of 373 pedestrians lost their lives on the city’s roads. 

“I spoke to learners in Grade R to 3 around how to use roads in a safe way and how to cross a pedestrian crossings and it was a wonderful session with those children,” Herron added.

Herron added that they also gave the children some materials such as brightly coloured shoe laces with safety messages on the shoe laces as well as posters.

He further said the focus for this month is on pedestrian’s safety and through the month of October he will be visiting schools sharing the pedestrian safety message with some young kids.
