On Thursday afternoon while on routine patrols around the Sandy Beach area, two of the Table Mountain National Park rangers approached an individual who had on him black mussels, which is not a legal activity.

While they were busy arresting him he lashed out at one of the rangers who stabbed the ranger several times on the upper body.

Communications Manager for Table Mountain National Park, Merle Collins, said that the suspect ran away in panic and the ranger was airlifted to Constantiaberg Hospital where he had to undergo surgery.

Collins added that  a man-hunt has been launched by the police in search of the suspect.
