Two police officers were on Wednesday night shot dead while trying to search a house in Siqala Informal Settlement in Philppi as part of Operation Combat.

It is alleged when the officers entered the house the suspects opened fire at the police officers fatally wounding two officers.  Since July this year nine police officers have been killed in the province.

Police Spokesperson Andre Traut said that one officer was wounded and admitted to hospital.

Traut added that one of the suspects was wounded but he was arrested. The suspect died this morning, as a result of his injuries.
