The Western Cape Department of
Education says, for some time it has been concerned about the impact of the
National Progression Policy on education.
WCED spokesperson Jessica
Shelver says, through speaking to teachers and principals it has become
apparent that this policy has a number of unintended consequence for learners
and teachers which are bad for education.
Shelver says MEC Debbie
Schafer urges Minister Motshekga to scrap the regulation.
She says, to save money
towards getting more assistance for learners especially in foundation phase, we
also propose that we stick to doing the ANA from next year to grade 3,6 and 9
and not every year from grade 1 to 9.
