The South African Federation of Civil Engineering Contractors (SAFCEC) is seeking to obtain an interdict in a bid to stop workers at World Cup sites from going on strike. The organisation arrived at the decision after the Building, Construction and Allied Workers’ Union gave notice of strike action.
SAFCEC spokesperson, Joe Campanella, says they will apply for the interdict as soon as possible. He says the application would be made on the basis that the strike is premature.
If the application is successful, the Labour Court will halt the planned strike.
