A survey done by Lead SA has revealed that 2 500 people in the country had bribed traffic officers over the past three months.

Most of the bribes were paid in Johannesburg, with 1 889 incidents reported, followed by Ekurhuleni with 387 and Tshwane with 121.

Cape Town was the lowest with only 9 people admitting to bribing officers.

Justice Project SA (JPSA) said "We hasten to add that as surprising as it may seem, the poll has not revealed just how bad things are, even though the figures produced are shocking to some. We would estimate that the results are merely the tip of the iceberg and the problem is way larger than even this poll has revealed."
