The Department of Public Services and Administration will be establishing a special anti-corruption unit.
This comes after more than 1,000 cases of financial misconduct were reported for the 2008/2009 financial year.
The Director-General of the Public Service Commission Mashwahle Diphofa said “allegations of corruption were not being followed up vigorously enough”.
The Public Service Commission found that over 50% of cases were categorized as fraud and 15% were categorized as theft.
It cost the state over R100 million and only R9.9 million was recovered.
