An anti-crime campaign in the form of a carnival will take place today, as part of the Grassy Park Community Outreach Programme.

The programme was established in an attempt to improve the Grassy Park and Lotus River areas through outreach projects.

The theme for this year’s carnival is ‘Youth Against Crime’ and will focus on educating the youth about the negative effects of crime.

This was motivated by the recent spike in drug-related incidents and crime in the area.

Ward Councillor Derek Smith says guests like the Executive Mayor of Cape Town Alderman Dan Plato and the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith, will deliver addresses at the carnival.

The carnival starts at 10:00 am at the Lotus River Multi-Purpose Centre, c/o Buck Road and 5th Avenue, Lotus River.
