Over the past few months the City of Cape Town's animal control unit has gathered more than 1,200 stray dogs across the peninsula.
The issue of stray dogs made headlines in July 2011, when a three-year-old boy was attacked and killed by a pack of stray dogs in Phillipi.
Following the incident officials and animal welfare groups said the Mother City was filled by more than 200,000 strays.
The city's Neil Arendse said strategies will be put into practice over the upcoming months.
