Western Cape Community Police Board today criticized a proposed bill aimed at monitoring police in the province.

The Board said that the bill is unconstitutional.

Residents have until mid-May to comment on government's Community Safety Bill.

MEC for Community Safety Dan Plato said that the bill aims to protect members of the public from police misconduct by establishing a provincial ombudsman.

Plato further said it will also have guidelines dictating how Community Policing Forums should be set up.

Chairperson of the Community Policing Board Hanif Loonat said that they are not happy with the bill.
