Two protesters have handcuffed themselves to scaffolding at the construction site at the Chapman’s Peak Toll Plaza.

The Western Cape’s Transport and Public Works department chief Hector Elliot has been negotiating with protestors and another woman who has been on an 11-day hunger strike at the site.

The protesters say they will remain handcuffed to the site everyday until construction is called off.

The hunger striker Bronwyn Lancers-Byrne has since come up with an alternative toll booth recommendation that is more environmentally friendly.

Elliot said he will take her recommendation into consideration.
