The Hawks are reportedly considering opening an inquiry into whether MTN broke the law in efforts to secure a licence in Iran.
According to the Sunday Times, MTN’s chairperson Cyril Ramaphosa is one of those mentioned in court papers filed in Washington DC this week by rival bidders Turkcell.
Turkell claims that MTN won a cellular licence in Iran in 2005 after bribing politicians.
They also claim MTN promised that the South African government would supply arms to Iran and support the country’s nuclear programme.
