Solidarity says that their Stop Absa Campaign launched last week has become one of the largest ever social media protest campaigns run in South Africa.

Solidarity protested against retrenchments at Absa using Twitter and Facebook.

Solidarity Spokesperson Moira-Marie Kloppers says that this is a first for South African online protests.

According to prominent Twitter monitoring sites more than 40-thousand Facebook users commented on the campaign and more than half-a-million people tweeted about it in the past five days.
