The Congress of the People in a statement applauds Winnie Madikizela-Mandela for requesting an amendment to the electoral system we are using at the national and provincial level.

In the statement it said she recognises clearly, after having participated in the struggle, that lack of accountability is the bane of society.

Now that comrade Winnie Madikizela-Mandela has made her call for electoral reform public, COPE urges South Africans to rally behind her.

COPE’s spokesperson Dennis Bloem said COPE really agrees with what she is saying because if we are not having accountability from the public representatives, that is the councillor and members of parliament, then our service delivery would never happen.

“It was a very brave step of Winnie Madikizela-Mandela to tell the ANC that this current system does not work.” Bloem added.
