Minister of Energy Tina Joemat-Pettersson says it is imperative that as a country we stand together in building and developing the continent.

This as government is working towards quelling attacks and violence towards foreign-nationals in the country.

Departmental Spokesperson Thandiwe Maimane said the energy department and the ministers are very aware of the fact that as a country, South Africa is able to get some of its energy from our neighbours.

Maimane said above all South Africa and the constitution that we have in South Africa actually sets out to ensure that all those who live in South Africa may do so in peace without fear of attack from anyone, simply due to the fact that they may not be an African.

Meanwhile Minister of Defence Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula has deployed the army to Alexandra and parts of KwaZulu Natal to assist police in bringing an end to this violence.
