Western Cape MEC of Community Safety Dan Plato has
called for justice to prevail in the matter concerning Provincial Police
Commissioner Arno Lamoer.
Lamoer and five top cops appeared in the Goodwood
Magistrate Court on Friday on charges including corruption and money
laundering.
MEC Plato says he is concerned that this case has
dragged on since 2013 and the allegations against the six has had a serious
destabilising effect on policing in the province.
Ministerial Spokesperson Ewald Botha said the
safety of the people of the Western Cape must remain a top priority for the
South African Police Service.
Botha added
that as Department of Community Safety’s MEC Plato’s has already instructed the
Court Watching Briefs unit to keep a close eye and monitor the case.
“We cannot allow any wrong move in the procedures
towards justice where there would be exoneration or conviction with regards to
the charges.’ Botha said.
