Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille say the city is doing everything possible to fight substance abuse.

This as on Monday she opened the Matrix treatment site for drug and alcohol abuse in Manenberg.

The City of Cape Town has invested thirty-seven point eight million-Rand to combat substance abuse in the metro this year alone.

Meanwhile the African Christian Democratic Party in the Western Cape has welcomed this treatment centre stating that the establishment of treatment centres in impoverished, broken and drug infested communities cannot be underestimated.

Mayor Spokesperson Pierrinne Leukes said we opened now six Matrix treatment sites for substance abuse. So far the city of Cape Town has treated more than 8 000 people with this model for free.

Leukes said the Mayor of Cape Town has urged residents to make use of this service, which they can access by calling our toll free 24 hour helpline on 0800 435 748.
