The Democratic Alliance will submit a Promotion of Access to Information Act application.

This follows media reports alleging that the latest Eskom coal contract was signed with the Gupta family.

The DA says it appears that, political interference may have been involved, with some resistance from Eskom management and senior executives, in the awarding of coal supply tenders to the Gupta family and their associates.

DA MP of Public Enterprise Natasha Mazzone says the Democratic Alliance will be launching a protection to access information application following reports that the Gupta family are involved in various coal deals which haven’t been executed and awarded allegedly correctly.

“This is obvious a very serious allegation and something which we must take up very seriously and therefore the DA will be asking for the entire coal contract to be given to us so that we can scrutinise them and see exactly how the procedure was done and what exactly it entailed”, Mazzone added.
