Police investigating a murder case after a 14-year-old was stabbed outside his school,

A grade 7 learner from Wesfleur Primary School in Atlantis died after he was allegedly stabbed to death by a grade 6 learner outside the school.

The learner identified as 14-year-old Fadiel Benjamin was stabbed in the chest with a knife.

The Western Cape Department of Education’s Paddy Attwell said they are deeply shocked at the incident.

Attwell said Fadiel ran back to the school and told the secretary that a fellow learner has stabbed him, the school immediately contacted the police and the ambulance services, however the principle saw the seriousness of the situation and then rushed Fadiel to the Wesfleur Hospital in his own car.

He added that Fadiel was later transferred to Groote Schuur Hospital where he died on Monday night.

Attwell emphasised that Fadiel’s mother works as a volunteer at the school and his twin brother ran back to tell her about the stabbing. The principle visited the home of the alleged perpetrator to tell his mother about the incident, the principle also reported the incident to our circuit officer and asked for assistance in providing counselling for Fadiel’s classmates and his mother.

“The school’s social worker and the school’s psychologist provided counselling yesterday morning” Attwell concluded.

Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the stabbing.
