A wildcat strike at the Water Technical Operations Centre in Bellville which the City of Cape says is illegal is causing major disruptions at the call centre.

The strike has to do the City wanting to merge the Corporate Call Centre and the Water TOC Call Centre, which has resulted in the staff resisting the merge stating that they were not properly consulted on the matter.

Mayoral Committee Member for Corporate Services Xanthea Limberg said the real objective behind this streamline merge is to streamline resident’s communications with the city into one single access point.

Limberg added that the City has engaged with the employees about the merge for some months now, and we are continuing with that engagement but the workers have demonstrated resistance to the merge, but we will continue to consult them.

“In the interim the City wishes to urge resident to be patient when trying to contact the water Technical Operation Centre as there may be delays in terms of the response time, but we assure residents that the matter will be dealt with.” Limberg said.
