The US is to launch the “Mandela Day” with a musical concert on July 18 at the country’s buzzing city of New York.
The concert which will be in honour of Mandela’s inspiration, it is also a call to people everywhere to observe the day worldwide.
The concert will take place at New York’s Radio City Music Hall and will boast a rage of artists from all over the world , including Stevie Wonder, Wyclef Jean, Aretha Franklin, Loyiso Bala , Will.I.Am, Jesse McCartney, Cyndi Lauper, Zucchero, and many more.
There will be a pay tv for viewers worldwide on the web (mandeladay.com) and all the proceeds from the pay-per-view experience will benefit 46664 and the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
South African artists such as Sipho "Hotstix" Mabuse, Vusi Mahlasela, and Thandiswa Mazwai will also be part of the concert.
The celebration of Mandela Day aims to serve as a global call to action for people to "recognise their individual power to make an imprint and help change the world around them for the better", the Nelson Mandela Foundation said at the launch of the campaign in April.
The foundations said they are calling people around the world to commit 67 minutes of their time "to make an imprint and help change the world around them”
The minutes will imprint the 67 years Mandela laid in serving his nation and the rest of the world.
