The City of Cape Town is confident in the newly implemented “ghost squad” patrolling the streets of Cape Town.

Traffic officers will be on the look out for traffic offenders in unmarked cars and motor cycles. Motorists will not be able to identify the traffic officers as they will not be uniformed.

Spokesperson for the city, Councillor JP Smith, says he is confident in the effectiveness of the plan .

“ It is an example of creative use of scarce police resources for the best possible outcome,” said Smith.

He added that because traffic officers will not be identifiable, motorists will hopefully drive more responsibly.

“ This will also reduce the high numbers of road casualties we have seen,” said Smith.

The plan was implemented today.
