Three of the major hospitals in Western Cape have joined the national strike yesterday.
This morning the doctors in Grooter Schuir hospital are off duty and the pharmacists are not dispensing the medication.
Elizabeth Knipe was turned away from hospital this morning and she didn’t get the medication that she wanted.
“By the time we got to the hospital there was only one nurse, and also the pharmacy told me that they are not dispensing any medication as the doctor’s are still on strike”.
The majority of people travel by taxi to get to hospital and now that the doctors are striking it affects them.
Knipe also said “now she has to phone again on Friday to make another appointment to see the doctor even then there are no guarantees that she will get the chance to see the doctor and she needs her medication as in today”.
Patients with appointments and those needs to get their medication are affected.
