A father and his 17 year old boy have been killed in a motorbike accident that occurred in the city centre.

The pair were travelling on their motorbike when they collided with a white Opel Corsa on the corner of Orange and Hof streets, near the Mount Nelson Hotel.

The driver of the Opel Corsa was taken away from the scene of the accident for trauma counselling. Police are still unsure of what exactly happened. The father and son who were both wearing protective helmets died on the scene.

The pair from Claremont died on the scene and their identities will be realised after their next of kin has been notified.

Police are investigating a case of capable homicide. Inspector November Filander said they have no details from the driver of the Opel Corsa.

Orange Street was closed for at least for two hours and the traffic was diverted until the scene of the accident was cleared.

Iain (dad) and Hamish (17) survived by brother Charles and half-sister Lucy. So sad. Rest in peace.

I was there with my partner, just a little after it happened, and we stayed until the road was cleared. We did that because we are also part of the larger biking family and wanted to know what had happened. I'm not sure if the family will ever read this, but please be reassured that Iain and Hamish were treated with dignity and privacy by the authorities. We pray for their souls, rest in peace and ride free on the wind......
