Cold and chilly nights might soon be over for Cape Town street children.
This follows as part of an ongoing program called “Give Responsibility” by the Central City Improvement District kick starts.
The campaign, a unique initiative of the city, aims at giving street children food, clothing as well as blankets to brisk away the cold during the winter season.
Social manger at the city social development office Pat Eddy, says the public can get involved by making donations of children’s clothing, toiletries and non-perishables.
“We urge the public to make a meaningful contribution to them (children) by donating food and clothes, rather than giving them money which they don’t use wisely” she said.
Eddy said they encourage people to assist homeless children without giving them money. She says they are a number of sites were the public can drop off their items at around town.
“St Georges Mall and Longmarket Street are sum of the drop off sites that can be used for any donations, as well as the International Convention Center” she said.
Some of the items will also be used to families around the city and areas such as Egoli and Joe Slovo.
Anyone who wants to be involved in the program can contact Pat on 082 563 42 89.
