Western Cape police commissioner Mzwandile Petros said it is unbelievable on what people will go to just to access money from the victims.

Petros, who was addressing media, said this after the weekend incident that saw a Khayelitsha man allegedly killing a three year old girl.

The man demanded R500 ransom from a family of the little girl. After a three-year-old, Viwe Mnembe, was allegedly abducted on Thursday from a creche by her mother's former boyfriend.

The 24-year-old Mbulelo Bhadane reportedly demanded the money from the mother.Mnembe's body was discovered on Saturday, and Bhadane appeared in the Khayelitsha Magistrates Court on Monday on murder and abduction charges.

He said he met local NGOs on the issue on Tuesday."It is becoming a normal thing in the Western Cape, which is unfortunate. Each and every weekend we will have child abducted."We need to investigate this thing further, why is this thing happening in the Western Cape.
