The only surviving suspect of the Shongweni massacre has pleaded guilty to all charges against him.
This comes after a second suspect was shot dead by police.
The 23-year-old alleged accomplice’s lawyer and the prosecution were preparing for a bail application when the man told in the Pinetown Magistrate’s Court he wanted to plead guilty to all charges.
This sudden change of heart came just minutes after his lawyer told the court his client was an “upstanding citizen, who was entitled to bail”.
The man from Richmond faces charges of murder, rape, attempted murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances.
This follows the brutal murder of six people and the rape of a 13-year-old girl in Shongweni.
