MEC for transport and public works in the Western Cape Robin Carlisle said construction at Chapman’s Peak will go ahead as planned today.
This despite planned protests by civil rights groups at the construction of the toll plaza.
The department and civil rights groups met last week to discuss possible alternatives to the construction of the toll plaza.
Carlisle said that the construction is legal and should go ahead as planned.
He added that they did agree they would stop pouring concrete for the canopy until they had a meeting and they would start again today.
Carlisle said it was a clear agreement understood by all parties.
He added that some sort of construction will definitely happen.
