The Commission for Gender Equality has been sitting in Mpumalanga in order to look at gender transformation issues.

Commission spokesperson Javu Baloyi says they expect to wrap up investigations in the province within the next three weeks.

Similar sittings have been held in Gauteng, the Western Cape, North West and KwaZulu-Natal and the Commission will hopefully be heading to the Free State next.

Javu Baloyi said that these were the issues they were facing and it has become evident that women are the majority but he feels that men are not given an equal opportunity.

The Commission for Gender Equality said in a statement on Thursday 26 October 2012  it felt gender discrimination was the new racism of the South Africa.

The commission has disscussed he high levels of gender-based violence with Parliament's Portfolio Committee on Women, Children and People with Disabilities and said it is awaiting feedback on its request to speed up the gender equality bill, so that equality for women in the workplace can be formalised.
The commission's Javu Baloyi said discrimination was still rife on the streets and in the workplace.

Baloyi said gender discrimination issues should be taken more seriously.
