The Minister of State Security Siyabonga Cwele on Wednesday gave his response to Parliament on the amendments to the State Information Bill.

One of the amendments the Minister gave was that the power to classify secrets should be given to all policeman and soldiers across South Africa.

Right 2 Know`s Murray Hunter said the Secrecy Bill still maintains a number of provisions that threaten the free flow of information.

Hunter also said that the Minister is trying to undo what has already been done.

He added that they call upon the Minister to back off.

Meanwhile the Democratic Alliance said the extension given for deliberations on the bill is much needed.

DA’s Alf Lees said they hope the extension will not be abused by the ANC and the State Security Agency to backtrack on previous amendments.
