Limpopo police say five people have been arrested for allegedly forcing four workers at Anglo American Platinum's mine to strip naked.

The SA Human Rights Commission today called on police to investigate reports that photographs of naked non-striking mineworkers had been circulated on social media sites.

Limpopo police spokesperson Ronel Otto today confirmed that the individuals were in fact arrested last Thursday and appeared in court on Friday on charges of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, indecent assault, and illegal gathering.

Anglo American Platinum Limited is the world's leading primary producer of platinum group metals and accounts for almost half of the world's newly mined platinum.

The Company is listed on the JSE Limited and has its headquarters in Johannesburg, South Africa.
