Parts of the fire that threatened the slopes of Simonsberg Mountain were successfully extinguished in early hours of this morning.
Fire fighters continue efforts to monitor hot spot in the area. Chief fire officer for the Cape Winelands Wayne Josais said when the fire fighters arrived there was a fire on the slopes of the mountain.
The fire spread through the mountain as the high moisture condition supported the fire, there are still high hot spot on the mountain because those areas can’t be reached by food or vehicle, but we are monitoring the fire.
There were 8 fire fighting vehicles and twenty professional fire fighters. The fire never set any light to any property said Josais.
