National Union of Mineworkers said it is pleased with the success of the strike action turn out, which hit which the construction industry on Wednesday.
About 95 percent of the sites had been affected by the 100 percent stay away action.
Local Organising Committee for the 2010 World Cup Danny Jordaan is reported as saying the workers have been the lifeblood of the project and their hard work has ensured that things are on track to meet the set deadlines.
The workers have the right to strike if they feel they have legitimate grievances however he hopes the struck can been resolved soon so that the stadiums can be finished on scheduled said Jordan.
It is reported that NUM spokesperson said the strike will continue today and the workers willingness and resilience to continue until the employers offer is offer the required 13 percent pay increase.
